Last Night’s Highlights:

  1. The Red Sox beat the Nationals 8-7 scoring 3 bizarre runs in the 7th to take the lead.
    • The Sox are now 6-2, their best start to a season through 8 games since 2006.
    • Koji Uehara took the mound for the first time this season and recorded his first save.
    • Pablo Sandoval left the game in the 3rd inning after fouling a ball off his foot.
  2. The Celtics won versus Toronto 95-93 and clinched the 7th seed in the East.
    • With 3 seconds left, Jae Crowder drained a FG off an inbounds pass to break the 93-93 tie.
    • With the 7th seed secured the Celtics will play Lebron’s Cavs in the first round.
  3. Torey Krug was one of the first 15 players named to the 2015 USMNT roster for the IIHF tournament in May (1-17).
    • This will be Krug’s first time wearing red, white, and blue on the ice.
  4. The Celtics will play Sacramento on December 3rd in Mexico City.
  5. The Bruins assign Spooner, Pastrnak, and Trotman to Providence to bolster the team as they enter the playoffs.

Around the Nation:

  1. The USWNT announced their roster for the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
    • Hope Solo made roster despite off-field issues this year including multiple assault charges.
  2. Duke’s J. Winslow announces e will join teammate J. Okafor and enter the NBA Draft.
  3. The Cleveland Browns unveiled a new series of uniforms.
  4. The Milwaukee Bucks unveiled their new logo for the 2015-16 season as well as two alternates.

Today’s Buzz:

  • The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin tonight as 8 teams begin their quest for the Cup.
    • Ottawa v. Montreal (G1) 7 PM.
    • NYI v. Washington (G1) 7 PM.
    • Chicago v. Nashville (G1) 8:30 PM.
    • Calgary v. Vancouver (G1) 10 PM.

  • The USMNT will play Mexico tonight in an international friendly at 8PM.
    • The US has won 5 straight versus MEX.

    • Xander Bogaerts will start, Sandoval not in line-up.
  • The Celtics travel to Milwaukee to face the Bucks at 7:30 PM in the last game of the season.
  • The Aaron Hernandez found guilty of 1st Degree Murder.

Here’s a recap of what went down yesterday.

  1. Red Sox beat Nationals 9-4
  2. Rick Porchello gets first W on new team.
    • Betts went 2-4 with 2 HR, 2 SB, and 4 RBI and looked fanastic in center robbing Bryce Harper of a HR early on.
    • Ortiz also went 2-4 with 2 HR and 2 RBI
  3. Brady nearly guarantees one for the thumb throwing out the first pitch wearing a ‘Number 5’ shirt.
  4. The Sox sign local hero Pete Frates (former BC baseball player battling ALS) to a major league contract.
  5. The Celtics clinch their first playoff berth under Brad Stevens.
  6. The Bruins announce they will not be signing veteran forwards Gregory Campbell and Daniel Paille.

What to watch today:

  • The Celtics take on the Raptors tonight at home at 7:30 PM.
  • Justin Masterson (1-0, 3.00 ERA) and the Red Sox face Steven Strasburg (0-1, 5.06 ERA) and the Nats in the 2nd game of their series starting at 6:10 PM.
  • Day 6 of the Aaron Hernandez Murder trial begins today as jurors continue to deliberate.
  • Rusney Castillo is reportedly heading to the DL with discomfort in his shoulder. There will be an update on his condition later, but it seems that as of now surgery will not be needed.
